Olympic Studios: One of the best recording facilities in the world

Updated: Jan 26

This British independent, commercial recording studio based at Barnes in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames was best known for its recordings of many artists from the mid 1960s including Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Ella Fitzgerald, Queen, Ray Charles, the Who, B.B King, Traffic, Prince, the Eagles, Eric Clapton, Adele, Madonna, Björk and MIKA. It is regarded as being as significant as Abbey Road Studios and remains an important cultural landmark and a frequently visited location on our London in the 1960s sightseeing tours.

Although much of Olympic has returned to its original purpose as a cinema, it still retains a recording facility, designed with the help of Chris Kimsey and other members of the original studio staff who are now involved in the construction of a much larger studio, performance and teaching space to run alongside Olympic's cinema at this iconic location.

On recent visits to Olympic Studios, we've been fortunate to bump into Chris Kimsey, PP Arnold and Moira Hopkins, wife of the late, great Nicky Hopkins, much to the delight of our groups of music tourists from all over the world.

If you're interested in a scheduled tour in January or February 2024 we're offering 20% off using the code MHL20 at checkout. For bespoke tours that include a visit to Olympic get in touch by email - info@60sbus.london
